[Note: this is a review of the 2015 Exclusive Premium Rechargeable Bundle]
Flashlights are getting brighter, smaller, and less expensive these days. Technology advances pretty quick when it comes to lighting in general. It’s a good thing, right? Heck yeah!
I’m going to give you a brief glimpse on what I think is a great bargain with an excellent flashlight. There could be better deals out there, I’m sure, but let’s just focus on one at a time. Onward, dear readers!
To start, I’m a flashlight nerd. It’s something I just can’t help. Maybe I’m just a collector, but I believe in having one in each bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, living room, etc. I do this because you never know exactly where you’re going to be if there is a power outage. Don’t you hate it when you’re suddenly plunged into the dark? Knowing you have a source of illumination nearby is a small relief, eh?
This review is for the Nitecore P12 (2015 version) Premium Rechargeable Bundle. This set has everything you need and then some! The small light throws out a maximum of approximately 950 to 1,000 lumens with four power settings, the fastest strobe option I’ve ever seen, standard SOS pattern, and a nice “beacon” effect. The lowest setting is 1 lumen and I use this when taking vital stats on a patient. After that, your levels are 50, 210, and then the 950-1,000 range. More presses then cycle you through the SOS, strobe, and beacon. The beacon blinks on & off at a slower rate at maximum brightness. Sort of like an emergency beacon that people can see way off in the distance. The beacon setting also lasts a long time since it saves energy by its slower rate of blinking. The rechargeable battery(s) last a fairly long time with minimal to normal usage. Of course, that all depends on the brightness level and length of time you have it turned on. When you hit the max brightness level, you absolutely, positively do not want to even glance at the LED bulb. I’m not the brightest (pun intended) sometimes and I did just that. It actually caused a couple of seconds of physical pain to my head.
This ‘premium bundle’ contains some very nice accessories. It has a 2 battery compartment smart-charger. If you have a battery in both spaces it will analyze each battery’s level of power and then charge them independently. You also receive 2 rechargeable 18650 batteries that last a decent amount of time with minimal to normal usage, which also gives you one battery that can be charged while you use the other. There is also a car charger, a mini 25 lumen keychain light, and a solid ballistic nylon style pouch.
Overall, I’m really glad I found this online right before Christmas because it made a good gift to give myself.
Recommended? All for $90? Absolutely!
Depending upon the accessories you want, the Nitecore P12 is currently available in two different packages on Amazon.
Option 1 comes with flashlight, 2 rechargeable 18650 batteries, 2 compartment smart charger, car charger adapter cord, 25 lumen keychain light. Retail is about $90. I like this combo better because you should always have one fresh battery on standby and you can recharge it in your car w/included adapter.
Option 2 comes with Flashlight, 1 rechargeable 18650 battery, 1 compartment charger, 2 CR123A lithium batteries (non rechargeable).
Besides the obvious $25 price difference, this is a good option. You have one rechargeable battery, so you may not have a backup available if needed. Sure, you have the 2 CR213A batteries, but those are disposable and will need to be replaced more often than you think because the light can throw 1,000 lumens which will eat a battery in quick order. The charger also accepts a USB connection, so you can recharge something else at the same time.
