New Reader Orientation

Posted on: September 23, 2013

My good friend and fellow author Brian Keene does this periodically on his blog and I felt it was a great idea so I’m shamelessly stealing it.

My name is Jim Cobb and I’m an author, a lecturer, and consultant on all matters related to disaster readiness, prepping, and emergency survival. You can find a listing of my books here, all of which [those that have been thus far released, anyway] are available via Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Booksamillion, and anywhere else books are sold.

I have also sold articles to publications such as Boy’s Life, Survivalist Magazine, and Backwoods Home Magazine.

I’m also a husband and we have three wonderful children. I’m very fortunate in that my wife shares my passion for preparedness, something I recognize as being the blessing it is. I’ve been living disaster readiness to one degree or another for most of the last 30 years. (Admittedly, I took some time off in my late teens as I became rather distracted by those things a teenage boy becomes very interested in.)

This website, SurvivalWeekly.com, was started back in the fall of 2009. What started out as a joint effort between four people has become close to a full-time job for me. At all times, the goal for this site is to serve as a quality resource for anyone interested in learning about being better prepared for whatever life tosses their way.

In addition to this site, I also offer my consulting services over at Disaster Prep Consultants.

For those who haven’t done so already, I invite you to “Like” our Facebook page.  We just recently started a “Group” on Facebook as well, found here.  It is through that group that you’ll learn of new posts and articles here on Survival Weekly as well as be able to interact with other preppers and survivalists. I’m on Twitter but I don’t post there nearly as much as I probably should.

When I’m not lecturing or writing, my day job is working as a private investigator. I’ve been a licensed detective for many years and have worked cases from routine delivery of court documents (process service) to homicides. No, it isn’t much at all like you see on TV, though I will admit to owning a trench coat.

I’m politically agnostic, which means I believe the perfect political party/system probably exists but I’ve not found it yet. I dearly love my United States but eschew calling myself a “patriot” due to the often negative connotations that term brings to mind. While I believe the U.S. is the best country on Earth, it is far from perfect.

The best way to reach me is to send me an email to Jim@SurvivalWeekly.com or send me a message via Facebook. Should you have a book you want signed or want to send me something else via snail mail, please send to:

Survival Weekly
P.O. Box 596
Woodstock, IL 60098

I do personally answer all email and FB messages, for whatever that might be worth.

Now, I invite you to surf around here and see what might catch your eye. Please feel free to click over to any of our sponsor websites as well. It is only with their help and assistance that we can continue to bring you all this great content.
