The Zombie Survival Manual by Sean T. Page
Posted on: December 11, 2013I mentioned on Facebook not too long ago that I’m getting mighty tired of zombie books. I think that particular sub-genre has reached the point of oversaturation and it is time to move on to something else.
That said, I make a rare exception when anything new comes out from Sean T. Page. I’ve known Sean for a while now, though the presence of an ocean between our countries has thus far prevented us from sharing a drink in person. Sean is an excellent author and an authority on all things zombie. To date, the books of his I’ve read have all been practical guides, of sorts, relating to surviving a zombie apocalypse. With THE ZOMBIE SURVIVAL MANUAL, I think he’s reached the pinnacle of achievement in this regard.
THE ZOMBIE SURVIVAL MANUAL is published by Haynes, the same folks who have helped oh so many home mechanics figure out how to install alternators and fuel pumps in their vehicles. As you might expect, then, this book is profusely illustrated.
There is a metric ton of information between the covers, all of it well written, and all of it of interest to even the casual fan of The Walking Dead or zombie fiction in general. Sean covers everything from the different types of zombies to zombies throughout history, home defense and combat to assembling survival groups. All of this is played completely straight, with nary a tongue sneaking into a cheek.
Even if you’re not a zombie fan, there is some great information here that is highly relevant to preppers, such as home preparations, survival kits, and siege defense strategies.
This is a very information-dense book, defying initial qualms about it being only 120 odd pages in length. Sean manages to cram an unbelievable amount of data on each and every page, while avoiding becoming dry and boring.
If you have a zombie fan on your holiday shopping list, you could do much worse than presenting them with a copy of THE ZOMBIE SURVIVAL MANUAL. This is a guaranteed winner and sure to be read cover to cover in delight.
