ResQme Keychain Tool

If you need to get out of your car in an emergency, even while floating or sinking in a body of water, I believe this little gadget absolutely will work to save your life and anyone else’s.

My initial reaction was “Wow, it’s much lighter and smaller than the pictures I have seen.” Along those lines, I’ve carried it on my keychain for a full two weeks and I did not notice it nor have any discomfort from carrying it. Sure, it’s not the smallest tool you could carry, but if it’s lightweight and dual purpose suits you, I can’t think of a reason why you wouldn’t carry it.

From the Resqme website, “The resqme tool is a unique portable safety device that can be attached to your keychain. This innovative 2-in-1 rescue tool is a window breaker and seatbelt cutter that allows you to get out of your car in an emergency.”

The tool will help you break your side and back windows since they are usually made of tempered glass. It is not meant to smash a windshield, however, because windshields are usually made of a different and possibly laminated glass. I’ve learned that pressing the tool against the lower edges of a window are the sweet spots, especially in the corners.

Since I didn’t want to smash my own car windows, I tested the spring loaded glass smasher on the top of a thick metal paint can lid. All you need is about 12lbs. of pressure to make the steel tip pop out and do its work. It left a nice divot in the lid. I tested the seatbelt cutter on a piece of military tent canvas and it cut it quite easily.

Just remember to hold whatever you’re trying to cut tautly, just as you would if you were using a pair of scissors. The spring loaded tip isn’t going to accidentally pop out either. Since it needs those 12lbs of pressure before it works, it’s highly unlikely you could activate it by simply having it on your keychain and in your pocket or purse. The seatbelt cutter is protected by a sheath that is part of the “handle” that you connect to your keychain. It is released by simply pulling it apart from the keychain. It does need a good tug before it pops apart. Both functions of the tool are reusable and appear durable enough to last a lifetime. It’s also one of those little items that you hope you never have to actually use.

All in all, for a price of about $10 here on Amazon and available in a lot of different colors, it’s certainly well worth the money. Protect yourself and your loved ones. It’s insurance on your life. Check out their website for great videos on how to use the tool.
