PROTOCOL 101

Dated: 11/14/07 Last updated: 7/5/09

This Protocol is intended for a situation of moderate probably of impending regional or national disaster that presents the reasonable possibility of a bug out to the retreat for at least a short period of time. Remember bylaw rules and guidelines about owner, guest, and invitees. Under this plan, you keep yourself at ready to go to the retreat. If you happen to have free or vacation time, you should take it at the retreat. It is also a good time to spend the weekends at least at the retreat.

Summary: Check over everything, your BOBs, BOTs, general supplies etc. Add to your food supplies in the course of general shopping. Check your gear, fill in your shortfalls, and stock up on things like batteries. Packing as you have time would be a good idea, or at least laying some things out to pack. Assemble your important documents, financial records, and contact information if they are not already.

Keep an eye on the news and follow the situation closely.

Financial: Retrieve contents from you bank box and put them in a fire safe at home. You may want to have all the information you need to sell stocks, or perhaps put stop orders on at least some of your stocks if the market is likely to go down if the crisis happens.

Medical: Fill your med subscriptions, and stock up on toiletries and health products, vitamins.

Defense: Have at last one gun at the ready for home defense in a lock box, or however you safely secure it. Check you ammo supplies. If you feel you are lacking in this area, purchase another firearm as you may not be able to later. Same for ammunition, stock up.

Homeschool: Have your kids bring home their important books each night just so they have them. Check over your library and consider adding to it. Consider some homeschool software if you have never before.

Shopping: Stock up, but don’t draw unnecessary attention to yourself. People are used to seeing people buy a year supply of stuff at the wholesale club, but not at the local grocery story or retailer. Spread it out over a few days and several stores.

Check list. Do you have assembled:

All your business, tax, utilities, legal, your doctor and family contact information.

All checkbooks, all credit cards, Driver’s licenses, hunting licenses, Passport, Social Security Card

Medical records

Bills, any not paid, and bill payment information. On line payment information

Numbers to cancel the news paper, etc.

PROTOCOL 201

Dated: 11/14/07 Last updated: 7/5/09

This Protocol is intended for a situation of high probably of impending regional or national disaster that necessitates a bug out with prolonged intended stay at the retreat for all members. Remember bylaw rules and guidelines about owner, guest, and invitees. Under this plan, you try to be at the retreat within 48 hours max, same day if possible.

Summary: In a nutshell, get yourself together, pack for an extended stay at the retreat with all but formal clothing, take what you can of worth, BOBs, BOTs, bring all your important documents, financial records, and contact information, empty your pantry and bring canned goods, etc., don’t waste time shopping, lock up your home best you can, and get to the retreat. You should be there in no more than 48 hours max, and preferably the same day as the alert.

Under this plan there is time to pack, so do so. Get everything together, organized, and get going. Renting or buying a trailer may be a good idea so you can take a lot of stuff you think you will need. Most certainly remember the Bug Out Bags that you should each have, should your vehicle fail to function. You need a full gas tank, and it’s a good idea to fill and bring four 5 gallon tanks as well. Driving two cars is fine, but stay in contact by CB and if one vehicle has problems, abandon it, taking all you can from it.

Close down your house best you can. Might want to clean out and throw away things that will spoil in your refrigerator to the extent you can in a few minutes only. Take out your garbage, all the things you would do just before a trip. If your neighbor watches your home and isn’t bugging out, work something out with them. Don’t leave anything behind you don’t want to lose. Cancel your news papers once you get to the retreat.

Financial: If you can, take out $9,000.00 in cash (if you don’t have at least that much already), remember to stay under the $10,000 Federal reporting limit. Liquidating stocks or mutual funds can take a few days to clear. Any national disaster is likely to lead to decreased stock value, so it is probably a good idea to get in some sell orders, at least 25% of your stock holdings should be liquidated, probably more. Call your broker when you are on your way, or log on once you are at the retreat. Be sure to bring all your official documents and everything of high tangible worth.

Medical: Bring your meds, prescriptions, and all toiletries and health products, vitamins.

Defense: Remember the laws of WI and IL on firearms in vehicles, unloaded and in a case. Obviously bring all you can, including ammunition. Don’t bother buying new ammunition; it’s too late for that, everyone else will have the same idea, just get to the retreat. Remember the stockpiles we already have.

Homeschool: Have your kids bring their current books that they have home with them. Otherwise, we do have the library at the retreat, don’t spend time shopping.

Shopping: We strongly prefer you do shopping once you are within 30 miles of the retreat, or better yet, after you have gotten there and unloaded. Get away from population, and don’t leave your vehicle unattended let it be stolen or it and your supplies be commandeered. Matt will be doing some ordering for supplies. There is a Wal-Mart in Osseo, and Eau Claire, and the Sam’s Club in Eau Claire too.

Check list. Do you pack:

All your business, tax, utilities, and legal information. your doctor and family contact information.

All checkbooks, all credit cards, Driver’s licenses, hunting licenses, Passport, Social Security Cards

Medical and prescription records and contacts, Dental records

Bills, any not paid, so you can contact the companies directly to bill you at the retreat.

Don’t waste time at the post office having you mail forwarded, you can do that from the retreat

Bring the numbers with you to cancel the news paper, etc., any your yellow pages for numbers you forget

PROTOCOL 301

Dated: 11/14/07 Last updated: 7/5/09

This Protocol is quite clearly a GRAB AND GO BUG OUT. Minutes count, grab only what you need. You should be out of your house in 5 minutes. Hopefully you have followed our rules and have at least a half tank of gas and two five gallon tanks ready to go. Hopefully you have a really good road map and your heavy BOB already in your vehicle.

Summary: In a nutshell, grab your BOBs, hoop up your BOTs, and leave. If and only if you have all your important documents, financial records, and contact information, right there and packed, fine, grab it, otherwise leave it.

Close and Lock you House: But don’t spend any time doing it.

Financial: Grab what cash you have in the house that you can grab quickly, and that’s it.

Medical: Bring your meds, prescriptions, and all toiletries and health products, vitamins.

Defense: You should have at least one gun you can load quickly in your vehicle.

Homeschool: No time to worry about it.

Shopping: Do not stop to shop, get to the retreat.

Travel: Listen to the radio, and if you have a CB or scanner use it. You may need to stay off major roads, so the person who isn’t driving should be navigating and looking for alternate routes if primary ones are blocked.

Check list. Do you pack:

All your business, tax, utilities, legal, your doctor and family contact information.

All checkbooks, all credit cards, Driver’s licenses, hunting licenses, Passport, Social Security Card

PROTOCOL 401

Dated: 11/14/07 Last updated: 7/5/09

This is the worst Protocol because travel to the retreat is no longer possible. It’s either too late, and the catastrophe is happening or has happened, and roads are impassable or shut down.

Summary: In a nutshell, you are going to have to survive where you are and get to the retreat when and if you can.

Remember your basic priorities, breathable air, drinkable water, eatable food, reasonable shelter, clothing, and personal defense. Gather what you can around you and consider your options.

If you are in your house, gather all you can and consider whether you are better off staying or going, and when.

Financial: In this situation cash might not be worth much, but it’s worth a try. Food, fuel, and ammo are probably going to be the things of highest value.

Medical: Whatever you’ve got.

Defense: Load your weapons and keep a weapon on you. Set up a perimeter best you can.

Homeschool: Very secondary consideration to pure survival.

Shopping: Too late, do not.

Check list. Do you pack:

If and when you can or decide to leave, try and have important identification and medical documents on you.

Driver’s licenses, hunting licenses, Passport, Social Security Card, medical records, Doctor contact info.
